How You Can Succeed In Healthcare Job Market After Graduation

After years of memorizing extensive amounts of information, and spending countless hours to achieve clinical experience, completing a degree in healthcare is a crowning achievement. That said, the excitement and anticipation of starting a career get quickly replaced by discouragement due to the tough job market.

With the changes in healthcare, struggling to find a job has become a common issue today. Healthcare recruiters prefer experienced applicants over fresh out of school candidates. In this post, we will explore some of the most common challenges graduates face in finding employment in healthcare and share some suggestions on how they can land their dream job.

The Need For Experience

The lack of experience is probably the biggest challenge for a new graduate in healthcare. Many healthcare recruiters ask candidates to indicate their years of experience at the very beginning in their online job applications. And filling the designation as inexperienced is frustrating for many new graduates as they are certain to be quite knowledgeable and qualified to make an excellent contribution to a healthcare team.

The best way to stand out from other applications, even without years of experience, is to add clinical experience to your resume. A ‘Skills and Experience’ section right after ‘Education Details’ let hiring managers know about your past work experience. You can also list particular skills or areas of expertise, hours of experience, any project you may have participated in, and technology or equipment you are familiar with.

Lack Of Available Positions

Depending on your area of expertise or geographic location, there might be very few opportunities for particular qualifications. Perhaps the market is saturated, or jobs are filled internally, which leaves only a little space for newcomers. In such a scenario, you may need to think outside the box. Find a healthcare recruiter company and apply for open positions.

Apart from this, look for private practice, health department, clinic, or other healthcare facilities if they have any openings. Call or send an email to speak with someone who is directly involved in the hiring process, even when they are not currently hiring new candidates. Ask them if they are willing to take a look at your resume for future references. Your enthusiasm to become a part of their facility will make you memorable.

In conclusion, do not let discouragement take over your aspiration to become a healthcare professional. Being a newly graduated professional, you may initially struggle to find employment, but eventually, you will achieve a very satisfying career in healthcare.
